New International Version | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? | 1Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing? |
The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, | 2The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, |
"Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles." | 3"Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!" |
The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. | 4He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. |
He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, | 5Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying, |
"I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain." | 6"But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain." |
I will proclaim the LORD's decree: He said to me, "You are my son; today I have become your father. | 7"I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. |
Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. | 8Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. |
You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." | 9'You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'" |
Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. | 10Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. |
Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. | 11Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling. |
Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. | 12Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him! |
