| 1After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward." | 1After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Fear not, Abram! I am your shield and the one who will reward you in great abundance." |
| 2But Abram said, "Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?" | 2But Abram said, "O sovereign LORD, what will you give me since I continue to be childless, and my heir is Eliezer of Damascus?" |
| 3And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir." | 3Abram added, "Since you have not given me a descendant, then look, one born in my house will be my heir!" |

| 5He took him outside and said, "Look up at the sky and count the stars--if indeed you can count them."
