New King James Version | New Living Translation |
To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. | 1I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. |
He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. | 2He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. |
How long will you attack a man? You shall be slain, all of you, Like a leaning wall and a tottering fence. | 3So many enemies against one man— all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence. |
They only consult to cast him down from his high position; They delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, But they curse inwardly. Selah | 4They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face but curse me in their hearts. Interlude |
My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. | 5Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. |
He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. | 6He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. |
In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. | 7My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. |
Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah | 8O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Interlude |
Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapor. | 9Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air. |
Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them. | 10Don’t make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. |
God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God. | 11God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you; |
Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; For You render to each one according to his work. | 12unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done. |
