New Living Translation | International Standard Version |
I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. | 1To you, who sit enthroned in heaven, I lift up my eyes. |
We keep looking to the LORD our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. | 2Consider this: as the eyes of a servant focus on what his master provides, and as the eyes of a female servant focus on what her mistress provides, so our eyes focus on the LORD our God, until he has mercy on us. |
Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt. | 3Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had more than enough of contempt. |
We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant. | 4Our lives overflow with scorn from those who live at ease, with contempt from those who are proud. |
