1God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. | 1For the music director; by the Korahites; according to the alamoth style; a song. God is our strong refuge; he is truly our helper in times of trouble. |
2So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. | 2For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea, |
3Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude | 3when its waves crash and foam, and the mountains shake before the surging sea. (Selah) |
4A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. | 4The river's channels bring joy to the city of God, the special, holy dwelling place of the sovereign One. |
5God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. | 5God lives within it, it cannot be moved. God rescues it at the break of dawn. |
6The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts! | 6Nations are in uproar, kingdoms are overthrown. God gives a shout, the earth dissolves. |

8Come, see the glorious works of the LORD: See how he brings destruction upon the world. | 8Come! Witness the exploits of the LORD, who brings devastation to the earth! |
9He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire. | 9He brings an end to wars throughout the earth; he shatters the bow and breaks the spear; he burns the shields with fire. |
10“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” | 10He says, "Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!" |
