| 1O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. | 1A psalm of David, written when he was in the Judean wilderness. O God, you are my God! I long for you! My soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. |
| 2I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. | 2Yes, in the sanctuary I have seen you, and witnessed your power and splendor. |
| 3Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! | 3Because experiencing your loyal love is better than life itself, my lips will praise you. |
| 4I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. | 4For this reason I will praise you while I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. |
