John 7:1-17 ▼

1 After this Jesus resided in Galilee: for he would not be in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him, now the

2 Jews feast of the tabernacles drawing nigh,

3 his relations said to him, retire hence, and go into Judea, that your disciples there may also see the works that you do.

4 for no body acts in private, that designs to distinguish himself: since you do such things, shew yourself to the world.

5 for even his brethren did not believe in him.

6 but Jesus said to them, my time is not yet come: but any time is equally proper for you.

7 the world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I plainly show, that their works are evil.

8 do you go up to this feast, as for me I do not go with you to it, because my time is not yet accomplished.

9 thus he delivered his mind, and stay'd himself in Galilee.

10 but when his brethren were gone, he went likewise to the feast, not openly, but in secret.

11 during the feast the Jews were in search of him, and said, where can he be?

12 and the people were much divided about him: for some said, he is a good man: others said, not at all; but he seduces the people.

13 However, no body talk'd openly in favour of him, for fear of the Jews.

14 but about the middle of the feast, Jesus went publickly into the temple, and taught.

15 at which the Jews were surprized, saying, how came be acquainted with the scriptures, a man of no education?

16 Jesus answered them, the doctrine I deliver is not my own, but his that sent me.

17 if any man is inclin'd to do his will, he shall know whether the doctrine be from God, or whether I speak from my self.
