Align lives with God's design?
How can we align our lives with God's original design in Ecclesiastes 7:29?

Setting the Scene

“Only this have I found: I have discovered that God made men upright, but they have sought out many schemes.” (Ecclesiastes 7:29)

Key Observation

• God’s original intent: uprightness—moral integrity, wholeness, fellowship with Him.

• Human reality: we drift into our own “schemes,” departing from that upright design.

Understanding God’s Original Design

• Created in His image (Genesis 1:27) – reflecting His character, truth, and holiness.

• Declared “very good” (Genesis 1:31) – no flaw or corruption.

• Designed for relationship—walking with Him, stewarding creation, enjoying righteous freedom.

Recognizing the Problem

• Sin introduces alternative “schemes” (Genesis 3:6–7).

• Schemes multiply—idolatry, self-reliance, moral relativism (Romans 1:21-25).

• The result is inner fragmentation, broken relationships, and distance from God (Isaiah 59:2).

Aligning Our Lives with God’s Design

• Return to the Designer—turn from schemes to the Savior (Acts 3:19).

• Renew the mind by Scripture, letting truth uproot lies (Romans 12:2).

• Restore uprightness through daily obedience empowered by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-25).

• Reflect God’s character in every arena—work, family, community (Colossians 3:17).

Practical Steps for Upright Living

1. Daily Word Intake

 • Read, memorize, and meditate on passages that define uprightness—e.g., Psalm 119:9-11.

2. Honest Self-Examination

 • Invite the Spirit to expose hidden schemes (Psalm 139:23-24).

3. Confession and Repentance

 • Keep short accounts with God, acknowledging sin immediately (1 John 1:9).

4. Accountable Fellowship

 • Walk with believers who spur you toward righteousness (Hebrews 10:24-25).

5. Active Obedience

 • Do the good you already know—integrity in speech, purity in conduct, generosity in need (Micah 6:8; Ephesians 4:25-32).

6. Kingdom Priorities

 • Seek first His kingdom and righteousness, trusting Him with all else (Matthew 6:33).

Living It Out Together

• Model uprightness in the home—marriage vows kept, children discipled (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

• Demonstrate integrity in the marketplace—honest scales, diligent work (Proverbs 11:1; Colossians 3:23).

• Serve the vulnerable—defend the fatherless, plead for the widow (Isaiah 1:17).

• Proclaim the gospel—inviting others out of schemes into the Savior’s upright way (2 Corinthians 5:20).

God made us upright; in Christ we can live upright again, displaying His original design before a watching world.
