Align trust with God's priorities?
How can we align our trust with God's priorities in Psalm 147:10?

The verse in focus

“He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.” (Psalm 147:10)

What God values—and what He doesn’t

• Horses and strong legs picture the very best of human power and resources in Israel’s world.

• God openly says He “does not delight” or “take pleasure” in those symbols.

• Verse 11 (the immediate context) states the opposite: “The LORD is pleased with those who fear Him, who hope in His loving devotion.” God’s priority is a heart posture, not human muscle.

Recognizing modern equivalents of “horses” and “strong legs”

• Financial security: salaries, investments, insurance policies

• Technology and information: the sense that “we can Google our way out of anything”

• Influence and connections: networking, social media reach

• Physical fitness, appearance, or personal charisma

These gifts are not sinful, but they become idols when our confidence quietly shifts from the Giver to the gifts.

Practical steps to shift our trust

1. Evaluate where our emotional reactions land.

• Anxiety when markets slip?

• Anger when plans fail?

• These responses expose misplaced trust (Matthew 6:25–33).

2. Speak truth aloud.

• “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalm 20:7)

3. Re-calibrate with Scripture daily.

• Read, memorize, and meditate on passages that highlight God’s sovereignty—e.g., Isaiah 40:25-31; Proverbs 3:5-6.

4. Practice planned dependence.

• Begin decisions with prayer, asking, “Father, show me Your way.”

• Seek counsel rooted in God’s Word rather than in mere expertise (Psalm 1:1-2).

5. Give thanks for weakness.

• Paul embraced weakness because “when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).

• Thank God for situations that force reliance on Him.

Confirming truth with the rest of Scripture

1 Samuel 17:47 — “The battle belongs to the LORD.”

Zechariah 4:6 — “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD of Hosts.”

Jeremiah 9:23-24 — “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom… but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me.”

All echo Psalm 147:10–11: God’s delight rests in hearts that fear, trust, and love Him.

Living it out today

• Before stepping into work, whisper a simple confession: “My competence is not my shelter; You are.”

• When blessings accumulate, deliberately redirect praise upward.

• Replace comparison with celebration when others succeed—proof that trust is in God’s favor, not personal advantage.

• End each day recounting concrete ways God sustained you, strengthening the habit of hope in His loving devotion.

Aligning our trust with God’s priorities means choosing humble, daily confidence in His steadfast love over every form of self-reliance.
