Anointing's relevance for today?
How does the concept of anointing in Numbers 7:1 apply to modern believers?

The Moment Moses Anointed the Tabernacle

• “Now on the day Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it with all its furnishings and the altar with all its utensils.” — Numbers 7:1

• Literal, historical act: oil poured on every piece dedicated the whole structure exclusively to God.

• Purpose: to mark what was ordinary as now holy, set apart, and ready for service.

What Anointing Signifies in Scripture

• Ownership – God claims what He anoints (Exodus 40:9).

• Empowerment – oil represents the Spirit coming upon someone or something for effective service (1 Samuel 16:13).

• Holiness – anointed objects or people are separated from common use (Leviticus 8:10–12).

Christ: The Fulfillment and Source of Anointing

• “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power.” — Acts 10:38

• Jesus, the true Tabernacle (John 1:14), became the perfect, Spirit-anointed dwelling of God on earth.

• His death and resurrection open the way for believers to share in that same Spirit-anointing.

Believers Today: The New, Spirit-Anointed Dwelling

• “Now it is God who establishes both us and you in Christ. He anointed us, placed His seal on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a pledge of what is to come.” — 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

• “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.” — 1 John 2:20

• The Holy Spirit indwells every believer at conversion, marking us as God’s property and empowering us for ministry.

Practical Implications

• Identity

– You belong to God; nothing in your life is “common” anymore.

• Mission

– Like the tabernacle furniture, every talent, resource, and relationship is set apart for Kingdom use (Romans 12:1).

• Confidence

– The same Spirit who empowered Jesus now empowers you to live holy and serve boldly (Ephesians 3:16).

• Discernment

– The anointing teaches and guides into truth (1 John 2:27); stay sensitive to His leading.

Living Out Your Anointing

• Daily surrender: invite the Spirit to fill every “room” of the heart (Ephesians 5:18).

• Guard holiness: avoid anything that defiles what God has consecrated (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

• Serve diligently: step into the good works prepared for you (Ephesians 2:10).

• Encourage others: remind fellow believers of their anointed identity and purpose (Hebrews 10:24-25).
