Apply Jesus' care in our community?
How can we apply Jesus' concern for others' needs in our community?

Seeing What Jesus Saw

“ ‘If I send them home hungry, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance.’ ” – Mark 8:3

• Jesus notices practical details: empty stomachs, long walks, physical limits.

• He anticipates consequences before they appear—“they will faint.”

• Compassion moves Him to act, not merely to feel.

Principles We Can Imitate

1. Observe needs, don’t assume.

2. Think ahead: How will inaction hurt people tomorrow?

3. Let compassion turn into concrete help.

Linking Passages That Reinforce the Call

Mark 6:34–37 – Jesus tells disciples, “You give them something to eat.”

Matthew 25:35–40 – Serving the “least of these” is serving Christ Himself.

Galatians 6:2 – “Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

James 2:15–16 – Faith that ignores physical need is dead.

1 John 3:17–18 – Love proves itself “in deed and in truth.”

Practical Ways to Live This Out in Community

• Keep eyes open at church, work, school: Who looks overwhelmed, hungry, lonely?

• Stock pantry bags, gift cards, or gas vouchers for quick, quiet help.

• Partner with local shelters, pregnancy centers, elder-care homes; serve regularly.

• Offer rides to medical appointments or worship services.

• Tutor kids after school; relieve single parents for an evening.

• Form a benevolence team that responds within 24 hours to urgent needs.

• Invite newcomers or shut-ins to share a meal; conversation itself feeds souls.

• Budget generosity: set aside a fixed percentage for spontaneous giving.

Guarding the Motivation

2 Corinthians 9:7 – Give willingly, “not reluctantly or under compulsion.”

Proverbs 19:17 – Lending to the poor is lending to the Lord; He repays.

Colossians 3:17 – Do everything “in the name of the Lord Jesus,” making Him, not self-praise, the focus.

When Resources Seem Small

Mark 8:5–7 – Seven loaves looked insufficient, yet in Jesus’ hands they multiplied.

• Offer what you have; trust God to expand it through collective effort and His providence.

A Community Marked by Christlike Care

• As each member meets tangible needs, the gospel gains credibility (John 13:35).

• Needs become opportunities for fellowship, discipleship, and witness.

• The pattern Jesus set in Mark 8:3 becomes our everyday rhythm: see, feel, act, and watch God satisfy multitudes.

How does Mark 8:3 connect with God's care in Psalm 23?
