Apply Jesus' humility in relationships?
How can we apply the humility of Jesus' sacrifice in our relationships?

Setting the Scene at Golgotha

“ When they came to the place called The Skull, they crucified Him there, along with the criminals—one on His right and the other on His left.” (Luke 23:33)

At that brutal hill, the sinless Son of God allowed Himself to be nailed between criminals. No self-defense, no reputation-saving speech—just silent, willing surrender. This moment anchors every call to humility in our own lives.

Seeing Humility Displayed

• He accepted injustice without retaliation (Isaiah 53:7; 1 Peter 2:23).

• He set aside status: “though He was in the form of God… He emptied Himself” (Philippians 2:6-8).

• He chose the servant’s path even earlier, washing His disciples’ feet (John 13:3-5).

• He stayed focused on the Father’s will rather than personal comfort (Matthew 26:39).

Why Humility Matters in Our Relationships

• It reflects the gospel we claim to believe. If Christ stooped for us, how can we tower over others?

• It disarms conflict; gentleness softens hard hearts (Proverbs 15:1).

• It invites God’s favor: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

• It builds genuine unity in church, marriage, family, and friendships (Ephesians 4:2-3).

Practical Ways to Mirror Christ’s Humility

1. Choose to serve before you are asked.

– Look for unnoticed tasks at home or church and do them quietly (Mark 10:45).

2. Give up the need to win every argument.

– Value the person above the point (Romans 12:18).

3. Practice silent endurance when wronged.

– Commit the matter to the Lord Who judges justly, as Jesus did (1 Peter 2:21-23).

4. Speak words that lift others higher.

– “In humility consider others more important than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3).

5. Apologize quickly and specifically.

– Owning sin demonstrates trust in the cross rather than in personal image (1 John 1:9).

6. Celebrate others’ successes.

– Rejoice when coworkers, siblings, or fellow believers are honored (Romans 12:15).

7. Keep reminders of the cross visible.

– A simple cross or bookmarked passage realigns attitude when pride creeps in (Galatians 6:14).
