Applying Acts 1:2 daily?
How can we apply Jesus' commands in Acts 1:2 to our daily lives?

setting the scene

“...until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.” (Acts 1:2)

Luke’s short phrase highlights three essentials that shape our walk today:

• Jesus still issues instructions.

• He speaks by the Holy Spirit.

• His followers are chosen to carry them out.

the core instructions behind Acts 1:2

• Wait for the Father’s promise (Acts 1:4).

• Be clothed with power from on high (Luke 24:49).

• Bear witness “in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

• Make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching them to obey everything He commanded (Matthew 28:19-20).

receiving jesus’ commands today

• Open the Word daily—His written commands remain the final authority (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

• Invite the Holy Spirit to illuminate and personalize what you read (John 16:13).

• Listen with a surrendered heart; obedience begins when He speaks (John 14:21).

living in obedience each day

• Start every morning acknowledging Christ’s lordship—“Not my will, but Yours.”

• Act promptly on what Scripture says, whether it feels big or small (James 1:22).

• Measure choices by His mission: does this advance the gospel or distract from it?

• Stay accountable; share with a trusted believer how you’re obeying this week (Hebrews 10:24-25).

rely on the holy spirit’s power

• Pray for fresh filling (Ephesians 5:18).

• Expect His guidance in conversations, decisions, and temptations (Romans 8:14).

• Walk by the Spirit so the flesh loses its grip (Galatians 5:16, 25).

staying mission-focused

• Jerusalem—home: model Christ in family life, chores, finances.

• Judea—community: engage neighbors, coworkers, students with love and truth.

• Samaria—cross-cultural: support or join ministries reaching different backgrounds.

• Ends of the earth: pray, give, go; leverage technology and travel to spread the gospel.

practical steps for the week

1. Schedule a specific time to read Acts 1 and record one command to obey today.

2. Before entering work or school, ask the Spirit for one person to encourage or witness to.

3. Fast from one distraction that dulls your spiritual ear, replacing it with prayer.

4. Share Jesus’ story with someone by week’s end; trust the Spirit for the words (Luke 12:12).

5. Celebrate obedience—thank God for every opportunity He gives, big or small (Colossians 3:17).

encouragement to persevere

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
