Applying Paul's obedience to our calling?
How can we apply Paul's obedience in Acts 26:16 to our own calling?

Paul’s Damascus Commission

“ ‘But get up and stand on your feet. For I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of Me and what I will show you.’ ” (Acts 26:16)

Lessons from Paul’s Obedience

• Immediate action—he rose without delay (Acts 26:19).

• Clear identity—“servant” first, “witness” second.

• Whole testimony—spoke of what he had already seen and what Christ would yet reveal (v. 22).

• Lifelong mission—obedience shaped every journey, sermon, and hardship (2 Corinthians 11:23-28).

Applying “Rise and Stand” Today

• Leave passivity behind—obedience begins by stepping out of complacency (Ephesians 5:14).

• Stand on gospel truth—our footing is the finished work of Christ, not feelings (1 Corinthians 15:1-2).

• Submit our plans—yield schedules, ambitions, and comfort to the Lord’s directive (Romans 12:1-2).

Living as Servants

• Serve, don’t dominate—“we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants” (2 Corinthians 4:5).

• Embrace humble tasks—Jesus washed feet; Paul carried offerings; we follow suit (John 13:14-15).

• Depend on grace—service flows from the strength God supplies (1 Peter 4:11).

Living as Witnesses

• Tell what you’ve seen—share salvation testimony and daily experiences of God’s faithfulness (Mark 5:19).

• Trust future revelation—keep learning Scripture so tomorrow’s insights enrich tomorrow’s witness (Colossians 3:16).

• Speak with courage—“you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses” (Acts 1:8).

Walking in Progressive Obedience

• Stay teachable—Paul’s theology deepened over time (Philippians 3:12-14).

• Follow the Spirit’s lead—closed doors and open doors alike guided his path (Acts 16:6-10).

• Finish well—fight the good fight, keep the faith, love His appearing (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Encouragement for Daily Application

• Start each day with a willing “yes” to God’s assignments.

• Look for people who need a servant and a witness—often the same person.

• Measure success by faithfulness, not applause (1 Corinthians 4:2).

Paul obeyed a risen Savior who still speaks through His Word. As we rise, stand, serve, and witness, we step into the same adventure of obedient faith.
