Believers' response to injustice?
How should believers respond to injustice, inspired by Psalm 109:11?

Setting the Scene

David wrote Psalm 109 while facing slander and betrayal. Instead of taking matters into his own hands, he poured out his outrage to God in an imprecatory prayer, trusting the Lord to act justly.

What Psalm 109:11 Says

"May the creditor seize all that he has, and may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor." (Psalm 109:11)

David is not personally grabbing his enemy’s property; he is asking God to turn the tables and let the oppressor taste his own medicine. The verse underscores two truths:

•Wrongdoers never ultimately prosper.

•God alone has the right to administer perfect justice.

God’s Justice, Our Trust

•“Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)

•“Vengeance is Mine; I will repay.” (Deuteronomy 32:35)

Because God guarantees justice, believers can:

1.Resist the urge to retaliate.

2.Rest in the certainty that evil will not go unanswered.

Praying Honestly About Injustice

Psalm 94:1 calls God “the God of vengeance.”

Revelation 6:10 shows martyrs crying, “How long…until You avenge our blood?”

Scripture invites raw, unfiltered prayer. Bring every hurt, fear, and righteous anger to the Lord, confident He hears and judges rightly.

Guarding the Heart While Waiting

•“Get rid of all bitterness… forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)

•“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)

Practical safeguards:

•Refuse to rehearse offenses; rehearse God’s promises instead.

•Choose forgiveness even while longing for justice.

•Ask the Spirit to keep resentment from taking root.

Active Righteous Response

•“He has shown you… to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

•“Open your mouth for those with no voice… defend the cause of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)

Ways to act:

–Speak truth when lies oppress.

–Stand with the vulnerable.

–Support biblical justice efforts—legally, financially, and relationally.

–Model integrity in your own dealings so no one suffers at your hands.

Patience and Hope

“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him… For evildoers will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.” (Psalm 37:7-9)

Waiting does not equal passivity; it is active trust that God’s timetable is perfect.
