What other Bible stories emphasize reliance on God over earthly powers?

Relying on the LORD, Not on Assyria (2 Kings 18:19–20)

• The Rabshakeh mocked Hezekiah: “What is the basis for this confidence of yours?”

• Hezekiah refused alliances, turning instead to prayer and Isaiah’s counsel (2 Kings 19:14-19).

• God answered: “I will defend this city and save it” (18:34), and 185,000 Assyrian soldiers fell in a single night (19:35).


Exodus: Powerless Slaves vs. Mighty Pharaoh (Exodus 14)

• “Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation” (v. 13).

• Israel walked through parted waters; Egypt’s chariots were drowned.

• God proved He alone rules kings and seas.


Gideon: A Whittled Army vs. Midian’s Multitude (Judges 6–7)

• 32,000 troops reduced to 300 so “Israel could not boast” (7:2).

• Torches and trumpets routed Midian; no earthly strength explained the victory.


David: A Shepherd Boy vs. Goliath (1 Samuel 17)

• “You come against me with sword and spear… I come against you in the name of the LORD of Hosts” (v. 45).

• One stone felled the giant, displaying God’s power over military might.


Elijah: One Prophet vs. Royal Idolatry (1 Kings 18)

• On Carmel, Baal’s 450 prophets failed; fire fell on Elijah’s lone altar (v. 38).

• The people cried, “The LORD, He is God!”—truth triumphing over state-sponsored idolatry.


Jehoshaphat: Worship Before War (2 Chronicles 20)

• “The battle is not yours, but God’s” (v. 15).

• Singers led the march; God set ambushes, and enemies destroyed one another.


Elisha and the Invisible Army (2 Kings 6:8–23)

• Surrounded by Arameans, Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes” (v. 17).

• Hills blazed with horses and chariots of fire—heaven’s forces unseen by earthly eyes.


Three Hebrews: No Bowing, No Burning (Daniel 3)

• “Our God… is able to deliver us… but even if He does not…” (vv. 17–18).

• Bound men walked unscathed in the furnace; Nebuchadnezzar glorified God.


Daniel: Unmoved in the Lions’ Den (Daniel 6)

• Political decree vs. unwavering prayer.

• “My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths” (v. 22).

• Earthly plots collapsed; God’s servant was vindicated.


Peter Freed from Herod’s Prison (Acts 12:1–17)

• Iron gates, quadruple guards—yet “the iron gate opened by itself” (v. 10).

• The praying church witnessed God overrule imperial chains.


Paul: Strength Perfected in Weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9–10)

• “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.”

• The apostle boasted in infirmities so Christ’s power might rest on him.

Across Scripture, every earthly power—armies, emperors, idols, even nature itself—bows to the Lord who rescues those who trust Him.
