Biblical examples of disobedience?
What other biblical examples show consequences of not following God wholeheartedly?

The Danger Highlighted in Numbers 32:11

“Because they have not followed Me wholeheartedly, not one of those who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years of age and upward, shall see the land that I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—” (Numbers 32:11)

Half-hearted obedience forfeits blessing. Scripture repeatedly affirms this sober truth.

King Saul: Discarded Throne

1 Samuel 13:13-14—“You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you… now your kingdom will not endure.”

1 Samuel 15:22-23—“Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has rejected you as king.”

Consequence: Dynasty lost, spiritual alienation, national instability.

Solomon: Divided Kingdom

1 Kings 11:4-6,9,11—“His heart was not fully devoted to the LORD… ‘Since you have not kept My covenant… I will surely tear the kingdom away from you.’”

Consequence: Civil war after his death; only a remnant left to his line.

Moses: Lost Entrance into the Land

Numbers 20:12—“Because you did not trust Me to show My holiness… you will not bring this assembly into the land.”

Consequence: After forty years of leadership, Moses sees Canaan from afar but dies outside it.

Lot’s Wife: Tragic Backward Glance

Genesis 19:26—“But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.”

Consequence: Immediate judgment, a permanent monument to divided loyalty.

Achan: Personal Sin, National Defeat

Joshua 7:11-12—“Israel has sinned… therefore the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies.”

Joshua 7:25—“The LORD will trouble you this day.”

Consequence: Thirty-six soldiers die, Israel’s advance stalls, Achan and his family perish.

Ananias and Sapphira: Hypocrisy Exposed

Acts 5:3-5,9-10—Both “fell down and breathed their last” after lying to the Holy Spirit.

Consequence: Sudden death, great fear upon the church (Acts 5:11).

Jonah: The Reluctant Prophet

Jonah 1:3-4,17—Fleeing the divine call brings a violent storm and three days in a fish.

Consequence: Personal distress, endangered sailors, delayed mission.

A Consistent Biblical Pattern

• Selective obedience always invites loss—of fellowship, influence, or even life.

• Wholehearted devotion secures blessing (Deuteronomy 6:5; Joshua 14:8-9; James 1:25).

Revelation 3:16 warns, “Because you are lukewarm… I am about to spit you out of My mouth.”

From patriarchs to apostles, Scripture faithfully records the high price of divided hearts, urging every generation to follow the Lord fully.
