Boost consistent zeal for good deeds?
How can we encourage others to maintain zeal for good works consistently?

The heart of Galatians 4:18

“It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you.”

Paul’s words remind us that sustained fervor for good works is normal and expected for believers, not a passing phase tied to anyone’s presence.

Why zeal often cools

• Distraction by lesser pursuits (Mark 4:19)

• Weariness from unrelieved service (Galatians 6:9)

• Subtle drift toward works-based acceptance instead of grace (Galatians 3:3)

• Lack of godly examples nearby (Philippians 3:17)

Foundations that keep passion alive

• Union with Christ: “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

• Purpose in creation: “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand.” (Ephesians 2:10)

• Redemptive motivation: “He gave Himself for us… to purify for Himself a people eager to do good deeds.” (Titus 2:14)

Practical ways to spur others on

• Model energy yourself

– “Never lag in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11)

• Speak specific encouragement

– Notice and name acts of service you see (Proverbs 25:11).

• Share Scripture consistently

– “All Scripture is God-breathed… so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

• Create shoulder-to-shoulder opportunities

– Invite others to join you in tangible projects (Acts 20:35).

• Establish gentle accountability

– “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24)

• Celebrate small victories together

– Rejoice when God’s grace produces fruit (Philippians 1:3-5).

• Pray for renewed strength

– Epaphras “is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand mature and fully assured.” (Colossians 4:12)

Guarding zeal from counterfeit motives

• Keep the spotlight on Christ, not personal acclaim (Matthew 5:16).

• Serve out of gratitude, not guilt (Colossians 3:17).

• Measure fruit by Scripture, not by comparison (2 Corinthians 10:12).

Encouragement when weariness sets in

• Remember the promise: “In due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

• Retell stories of God’s past faithfulness (Psalm 77:11-12).

• Invite trusted believers to speak life into you (Proverbs 27:17).

Living the verse today

Stir zeal in others by consistently pointing them to Christ’s finished work, opening Scripture together, walking alongside them in service, and celebrating every glimpse of grace. The same Spirit who inspired Galatians 4:18 empowers believers to be “zealous … always.”
