Christian response to divination today?
How should Christians respond to modern forms of divination and superstition?

Ezekiel 21:21—A Vivid Warning

“For the king of Babylon stands at the fork in the road, at the junction of the two roads, to cast lots with arrows, to consult his idols, to inspect the liver.”

• A pagan king faced a decision.

• He turned to three distinct occult practices: lots (arrows), idols, and liver inspection.

• God exposed these methods to show His people the futility and danger of seeking guidance anywhere but Him.

Modern Echoes of Ancient Divination

• Horoscopes and zodiac charts

• Tarot cards, palmistry, crystal balls

• Ouija boards, spirit channeling, medium consultations

• “Angel numbers,” pendulum swinging, energy crystals

• Good-luck charms, superstitious rituals, knock-on-wood habits

Why Believers Must Reject Divination

• Directly forbidden: “Let no one be found among you… who practices divination…” (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

• It insults God’s sufficiency: “Should not a people inquire of their God?” (Isaiah 8:19-20).

• It opens a door to demonic influence (Acts 16:16-18).

• It is spiritual adultery: “Rebellion is as the sin of divination” (1 Samuel 15:23).

• It provokes judgment: “Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21).

A Better Way—Seeking God’s Voice

• Scripture: God’s Word is “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).

• Prayer for wisdom: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God” (James 1:5).

• Holy Spirit guidance: “He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).

• Godly counsel: “In a multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14).

• Trusting Providence: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart… He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Practical Steps to Break Free from Superstition

1. Renounce: Verbally reject every form of occult practice you have participated in.

2. Remove: Discard books, charms, cards, crystals—anything tied to divination (Acts 19:18-19).

3. Replace: Fill your mind with Scripture, worship, and Christ-centered fellowship.

4. Resist: When tempted, stand firm in the Word (1 Peter 5:8-9).

5. Rest: Rely on God’s sovereignty; He alone determines outcomes (Isaiah 46:9-10).

Encouraging Promises for Obedient Hearts

• “You will keep in perfect peace the mind that is steadfast, because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3)

• “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act.” (Psalm 37:5)

• “My sheep hear My voice… and they follow Me.” (John 10:27)

Reject the counterfeit. Seek the true and living God who speaks through His Word, His Spirit, and His people—and experience the freedom and peace that come from trusting Him alone.
