Cultivate mindset for eternal treasures?
How can we develop the mindset of having "better and lasting possessions" in heaven?

Setting the Scene: Hebrews 10:34

“For you sympathized with the prisoners and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and lasting possession.”

What Makes Heavenly Possessions “Better and Lasting”

• Better because they come from the unchanging God (James 1:17).

• Lasting because they are “an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven” (1 Peter 1:4).

• Guaranteed by Christ’s finished work and sealed by the Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Fixing Our Eyes on the Eternal

• Intentionally meditate on passages like 2 Corinthians 4:17-18; Philippians 3:20.

• Journal specific promises connected to eternity; review them when earthly loss feels heavy.

• Speak aloud truth: “We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken” (Hebrews 12:28).

Training the Heart through Daily Choices

• Practice generosity now—give something tangible this week to someone who cannot repay (Luke 12:32-34).

• Simplify possessions; every decluttered shelf proclaims, “My treasure is elsewhere” (Matthew 6:19-20).

• Fast periodically from comforts to sharpen longing for the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:7-9).

Joyful Sacrifice Imitates the Early Believers

Acts 5:41—apostles “rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.”

Romans 8:18—present sufferings are “not comparable with the glory” to come.

• Replace grumbling with praise when loss comes; tell the story of God’s faithfulness to others.

Strength Drawn from Fellowship

• Meet consistently with believers who celebrate eternal reward (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Share testimonies of God’s provision; mutual encouragement cements heavenly mindset.

• Pray Scripture over one another, particularly passages on hope and inheritance (Colossians 1:12-13).

Anchoring in God’s Character

• Remind yourself daily: God cannot lie (Titus 1:2); His promises stand.

• Reflect on Jesus’ words: “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2-3).

• Sing hymns and worship songs rich in eschatological hope; music roots truth in the soul.

Living Today in Light of Forever

• Start each morning asking, “How will I invest in eternity before sundown?”

• End each day thanking God for specific opportunities He gave to trade temporary for eternal.

• Anticipate hearing, “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master” (Matthew 25:23).
