How can we emulate Titus' dedication in our own ministry efforts today? Setting the Scene “But thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same devotion I have for you.” (2 Corinthians 8:16) Paul is collecting relief funds for believers in Jerusalem. His confidence in Titus shows that God had ignited a matching passion in Titus’ heart. That spark is still meant to burn in us today. What Titus Modeled • God-given devotion — a heart stirred by the Lord, not by human pressure (v. 16). • Earnest initiative — “he is coming to you of his own accord” (v. 17). • Proven reliability — Paul calls him “my partner and fellow worker” (v. 23). • Genuine affection for people — see the comfort he brought in 2 Corinthians 7:6-7. • Integrity with money — entrusted with an offering (8:20-21) because “we are taking great care…so that no one can criticize us.” Practical Steps to Mirror Titus’ Dedication 1. Ask God to plant the same devotion. – Philippians 2:13: “it is God who works in you to will and to act.” 2. Volunteer before you are recruited. – Romans 12:11: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” 3. Build a track record of trustworthiness. – Luke 16:10: “Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much.” 4. Keep the focus on people, not projects. – 1 Thessalonians 2:8: “We were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our own lives as well.” 5. Handle resources transparently. – Proverbs 11:3: “The integrity of the upright guides them.” Guarding the Motives • Glory goes to God, not to us (2 Corinthians 4:7). • The mission flows from love, not duty (1 Corinthians 16:14). • Accountability protects witness (Hebrews 13:18).
