Ensure community values all Book words?
How can we ensure our community values "all the words of the Book"?

Key Verse

“And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the men of Judah and all the people of Jerusalem—priests and prophets and all the people, from the least to the greatest. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.” 2 Kings 23:2

Why every word counts

• “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4

• “All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16

• “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul.” Psalm 19:7

Read the whole Book aloud, together

• Schedule regular public readings (1 Timothy 4:13; Nehemiah 8:3).

• Include every age and social group—Josiah gathered “from the least to the greatest.”

• Let the congregation hear entire books over time, not just favorite passages.

Teach it carefully, verse by verse

• Exposit Scripture so people see context and flow (Nehemiah 8:8).

• Encourage leaders to study diligently (Ezra 7:10).

• Provide discussion guides that track with the text so nothing is skipped.

Apply it immediately and corporately

• Josiah pledged “to carry out the words of this covenant” (2 Kings 23:3).

• Challenge the body to obey what is read the same week—James 1:22.

• Share testimonies of obedience so the Word’s authority is celebrated.

Remove competing voices

• Josiah destroyed idols that contradicted God’s Word (2 Kings 23:4-15).

• Evaluate teaching materials, entertainment, and traditions; discard what clashes with Scripture (Colossians 2:8).

• Model repentance when the Book exposes error.

Make Scripture accessible

• Provide free printed Bibles, audio versions, and digital apps (Deuteronomy 17:18-19).

• Encourage daily reading plans that walk through the full canon in a year.

• Post verses in homes and gathering spaces (Deuteronomy 6:9).

Celebrate biblical milestones

• Mark occasions when the community completes a book reading, memorizes a chapter, or sees answered prayer grounded in Scripture (2 Kings 23:21-22).

• Use songs based on Scripture to reinforce truth (Colossians 3:16).

Guard the next generation

• Parents teach children “diligently” at home (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

• Youth ministries walk students through the whole narrative of Scripture, not just topical lessons.

• Encourage Scripture memory competitions and creative projects.

Cultivate humble responsiveness

• When Josiah heard the Book, he tore his clothes in repentance (2 Kings 22:11-13).

• Keep hearts soft through regular confession of sin (Psalm 139:23-24).

• Remind one another that the Word is not merely to be studied—it is to be submitted to.

The result

When a community commits to hearing, teaching, obeying, and guarding “all the words of the Book,” God’s truth shapes every facet of life, revival follows, and generations are anchored in unchanging Scripture.

What role does leadership play in spiritual revival according to 2 Chronicles 34:30?
