Exodus 3:7: Respond to suffering how?
How should Exodus 3:7 influence our response to others' suffering today?

God’s Heart Revealed in Exodus 3:7

“Then the LORD said, ‘I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.’”

• He sees – nothing escapes His eyes.

• He hears – every cry reaches Him.

• He knows – He enters into the pain of His people.

• He moves – the next verse shows Him coming down to act (v. 8).

Why This Matters for Believers

Because Scripture is accurate and literal, God still relates to suffering people in exactly these ways. Those in Christ are called to reflect that same character.

We Must Notice Suffering

Proverbs 31:8-9 – “Open your mouth for the mute… defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

• Practical step: keep eyes open in home, church, neighborhood, workplace; refuse to look away.

We Must Listen Compassionately

James 1:19 – “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak.”

• Slow down conversations; let the hurting finish their story before offering advice.

We Must Enter In

Romans 12:15 – “Mourn with those who mourn.”

• Empathy is more than feeling bad; it is shared sorrow that shoulders weight with another.

We Must Take Concrete Action

Luke 10:33-34 – The Samaritan “saw him…and bandaged his wounds.”

James 2:15-16 – Faith without supplying real needs is dead.

Practical ideas:

- Provide meals, give financially, babysit, drive to appointments.

- Advocate for the voiceless in local government or school meetings.

- Partner with ministries relieving oppression, trafficking, persecution.

We Must Point to the Ultimate Deliverer

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 – God comforts us “so that we can comfort those in any trouble.”

• Share the gospel that promises final freedom from all affliction (Revelation 21:4).
