How can Hezekiah's example inspire us to trust God during difficult times? Facing Pressure Yet Moving Forward “Hezekiah also strengthened his defenses. He rebuilt the broken wall, erected towers on it, built another wall outside, reinforced the supporting terraces of the City of David, and made large numbers of weapons and shields.” Hezekiah’s Five-Step Response • Rebuilt the broken wall – repairing past breaches • Erected towers – securing high vantage points • Built another wall outside – adding an extra layer of protection • Reinforced the terraces (Millo) – fortifying the city’s foundation • Produced weapons and shields in abundance – preparing for the fight How His Example Inspires Trust During Our Trials 1. Repair what’s broken • Confess sin and receive cleansing (1 John 1:9). • Restore neglected disciplines—Scripture intake, fellowship, worship. 2. Raise prayer “towers” • Keep watch in persistent intercession (Colossians 4:2). • Listen for God’s perspective from a higher vantage point (Psalm 121:1-2). 3. Add fresh layers of protection • Establish accountability partnerships (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). • Guard your thought life; replace lies with truth (Philippians 4:8). 4. Strengthen your foundation • Dig deeper into sound doctrine (2 Timothy 2:15). • Remember past deliverances; build spiritual “terraces” of testimony (Psalm 77:11-12). 5. Arm yourself for battle • Put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17). • Wield the sword of the Spirit—the Word spoken aloud in faith. Faith and Effort Working Together “‘Be strong and courageous… With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.’ And the people were encouraged by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.” • Hezekiah labored, yet his confidence rested in God. • Our planning and perseverance matter, but victory depends on the Lord (Proverbs 21:31). Promises to Anchor Your Heart • Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.” • Isaiah 26:3-4 – “You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast mind, because he trusts in You… the LORD is the Rock eternal.” • Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart… He will make your paths straight.” Putting It Into Practice This Week • Identify one “broken wall” in your life and draft a restoration plan. • Set a daily time to pray watchfully for yourself and someone else. • Memorize 2 Chronicles 32:7-8; speak it whenever anxiety surfaces. • List past rescues God has given you—thank Him and share one with a friend. |
