How can believers truly know Me today?
In what ways can believers ensure they "do not know Me" isn't true today?

Hearing the Warning: “They do not know Me”

Jeremiah 4:22 declares, “My people are fools; they have not known Me…”. God’s lament is not about atheists, but about covenant people whose lips honor Him while their hearts drift. The same danger shadows today’s church.

What Real Knowledge of God Looks Like

• Head and heart engage together (Jeremiah 24:7).

• Obedience flows naturally (1 John 2:3–4).

• Love for others is evident (1 John 4:7–8).

• A living relationship, not mere ritual (Hosea 6:6; John 17:3).

Practical Ways Believers Guard Against Hollow Knowledge

• Daily Scripture intake

– Read, study, and memorize God’s Word (Psalm 119:11).

– Let Scripture interpret life, not life interpret Scripture.

• Consistent prayer conversation

– Speak honestly; listen quietly (Psalm 46:10).

– Include praise, confession, thanksgiving, petition (Philippians 4:6).

• Spirit-led obedience in the ordinary

– Act on the promptings of the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

– Make immediate, concrete responses to what the Word reveals (James 1:22).

• Fellowship that sharpens

– Gather faithfully with believers (Hebrews 10:24–25).

– Invite accountability; share testimonies of God’s work.

• Service reflecting the Father’s heart

– Care for the poor, widow, orphan, stranger (James 1:27; Jeremiah 22:16).

– Use spiritual gifts to build up the body (1 Peter 4:10).

• Holiness in private and public

– Reject hidden sin; pursue purity (2 Corinthians 7:1).

– Keep short accounts with God—quick confession, ready repentance (1 John 1:9).

Signs We Are Learning to Know Him

• Growing humility—boasting only in the Lord (Jeremiah 9:23–24).

• Increasing discernment between truth and error (Hebrews 5:14).

• Steadier joy, even in trial (Habakkuk 3:17–18; John 15:11).

• Genuine love that sacrifices for others (John 13:35).

• Perseverance that outlasts cultural winds (2 Timothy 4:7).

Encouragement for the Journey

God desires to be known and gives everything necessary for it—His Word, His Spirit, His people. Walking in these means the lament “they do not know Me” is replaced by His delight: “I will be their God, and they will be My people” (Jeremiah 31:33).

How does Jeremiah 2:8 connect with Hosea 4:6 about knowledge and destruction?
