In what ways can we glorify God through our daily actions? Opening Verse “ I have glorified You on earth by accomplishing the work You gave Me to do.” — John 17:4 What It Means to Glorify God • Glorify means to put God’s character and worth on display. • Jesus models this by finishing the assignment the Father entrusted to Him. • Our daily actions become a stage on which God’s greatness is shown when we, like Jesus, complete the tasks He gives us. The Pattern Jesus Sets 1. Obedience: John 15:10—“If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love.” 2. Submission: Luke 22:42—“Not My will, but Yours, be done.” 3. Service: Mark 10:45—“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” 4. Perseverance: Hebrews 12:2—“For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross.” Practical Daily Opportunities • Work with excellence – Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men.” – Arrive on time, keep your word, finish projects. • Speak with integrity – Ephesians 4:29: “Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.” – Encourage coworkers, avoid gossip, tell the truth even when costly. • Show tangible love – 1 John 3:18: “Let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth.” – Cook a meal for someone sick, write a note of thanks, volunteer where needs are unmet. • Practice generosity – 2 Corinthians 9:7: “God loves a cheerful giver.” – Budget for giving, share possessions, tip graciously. • Cultivate gratitude – 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in every circumstance.” – Verbally thank God throughout the day, keep a gratitude list, celebrate small blessings. • Pursue purity – 1 Peter 1:15: “Be holy in all you do.” – Guard what you watch, set internet filters, flee compromising situations. • Honor relationships – Ephesians 5:25: “Husbands, love your wives.” – Children obey parents (Ephesians 6:1), friends forgive quickly (Colossians 3:13). Heart Posture Behind the Actions • Dependence on the Spirit—Galatians 5:16: “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” • Desire to please God, not people—Galatians 1:10. • Awareness that small acts matter—Luke 16:10: “Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much.” Encouragement to Finish Well Jesus glorified the Father by finishing the work assigned to Him. Each ordinary day offers assignments designed by God for you. Finish them faithfully, and your life will echo the prayer of John 17:4—bringing glory to the Father in the ordinary and the extraordinary alike. |
