How can our nation stay true to God?
In what ways can we ensure our nation remains faithful to God today?

A Sobering Example from Samaria

2 Kings 17:6 records a tragic national collapse:

“In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Goshen on the Habor River, and in the towns of the Medes.”

• Samaria did not fall because Assyria was strong, but because Israel was spiritually weak (see 17:7-15).

• The exile warns every nation that unfaithfulness to God brings real, historical judgment.

Recognize the Consequences of National Unfaithfulness

Deuteronomy 28:15, 25 – disobedience turns blessing into defeat.

Proverbs 14:34 – “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”

Psalm 33:12 – national blessing is tied to honoring the LORD.

Guard the Heart of the Nation: Worship God Alone

• Israel merged pagan worship with true worship (2 Kings 17:29-33).

Exodus 20:3-5 – the first commandments forbid idolatry.

1 John 5:21 – “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”

Practical steps:

– Reject cultural idols of money, power, and pleasure.

– Encourage public acknowledgment of the one true God.

– Celebrate national days of thanksgiving that give God glory, not mere civil religion.

Teach and Live the Word

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 – Scripture in the home, heart, and community.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 – every facet of life shaped by God-breathed truth.

Suggestions:

– Integrate biblical instruction in schools, churches, and civic ceremonies.

– Promote Bible literacy campaigns and family devotions.

– Use media and technology to broadcast faithful teaching.

Raise God-Fearing Leaders

Proverbs 29:2 – “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice.”

1 Timothy 2:1-4 – pray for those in authority so we may live peaceful, godly lives.

Action points:

– Support and vote for leaders who openly respect biblical values.

– Encourage pastors, teachers, and parents to mentor emerging leaders.

– Hold officials accountable to standards of integrity and justice.

Strengthen Families as Covenant Communities

Ephesians 6:4 – parents must bring children up “in the discipline and admonition of the Lord.”

Malachi 2:15 – God seeks godly offspring.

Practices:

– Promote marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman.

– Equip parents to disciple children through family worship and service.

– Provide community support for widows, single parents, and the vulnerable (James 1:27).

Uphold Righteousness and Justice

Micah 6:8 – “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”

Isaiah 1:17 – defend the fatherless and the widow.

To pursue:

– Laws that protect life from conception to natural death.

– Policies that reward honest labor and punish evil fairly (Romans 13:3-4).

– Compassionate outreach to the poor, immigrants, and oppressed without compromising truth.

Pray and Seek Revival

2 Chronicles 7:14 – national healing follows humble repentance.

Acts 3:19 – “Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away.”

Commitments:

– Organize days of prayer and fasting for national repentance.

– Foster unity among believers to cry out for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit.

– Share testimonies of God’s faithfulness to inspire hope.

Proclaim the Gospel Publicly and Personally

Matthew 28:19-20 – the Great Commission applies to every sphere, including civic life.

Romans 1:16 – the gospel is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.”

Living it out:

– Support missionary efforts at home and abroad.

– Equip believers to share Christ in workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods.

– Model transformed lives that display love, holiness, and truth.

Walking Forward in Covenant Blessing

When a nation honors God through worship, obedience, righteous leadership, strong families, justice, prayer, and gospel witness, it aligns with His covenant purposes. The fall of Samaria warns us; the promises of Scripture invite us. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.” (Psalm 33:12)
