How can we aid believers like Kenites did?
In what ways can we support fellow believers as the Kenites supported Judah?

Setting the Scene

Judges 1:16: “Now the descendants of the Kenite—Moses’ father-in-law—went up with the children of Judah from the City of Palms into the Wilderness of Judah in the Negev near Arad, and they settled among the people.”

The Kenites left the lush “City of Palms” to enter Judah’s rugged desert, choosing to stand and strive with God’s covenant people.

What the Kenites Did Right

• Walked the same road as Judah, sharing both journey and risk

• Accepted hardship—traded palm trees for wilderness

• Settled among the tribe instead of staying on the fringe

• Contributed skills and local knowledge (cf. 1 Samuel 15:6)

• Served quietly under Judah’s leadership without seeking spotlight

Timeless Ways to Support Fellow Believers

• Show up—consistent worship, small group, ministry projects

• Embrace inconvenient places—hospitals, prisons, mission fields

• Share life—open homes, meals, celebrations, and sorrows

• Offer practical gifts—budget help, carpentry, childcare, tech skills

• Strengthen others’ callings—celebrate their victories, seek their good

• Stand guard—pray, fast, speak Scripture when they face attack

• Give material aid—groceries, transport, rent, tools for ministry

Putting It into Practice

• Identify someone you can “journey with” this week and reach out

• Schedule regular check-ins—coffee, calls, texts

• Join or form a service team that matches your gifts to others’ needs

• Contribute to benevolence funds or missionaries facing lean seasons

• Guard against jealousy—rejoice when God prospers those you support

Walk the road together until every promise of God is inherited side by side.
