How can we be a wave offering to God?
In what ways can we offer our lives as a "wave offering" to God?

Setting the Scene

“Aaron is to present the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the Israelites, so that they may perform the service of the LORD.” (Numbers 8:11)

What Was the Wave Offering?

• A specific portion of a sacrifice lifted and moved before the LORD, symbolizing full dedication to Him (Exodus 29:26; Leviticus 7:30).

• Public and visible—everyone saw the offerer hand the portion wholly to God.

• Once waved, the piece belonged to the LORD first, then might be shared with the priest (Numbers 18:11).

Christ, the Ultimate Fulfillment

• Jesus was “lifted up” on the cross (John 12:32), the true offering wholly devoted to the Father.

• His resurrection, “the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20), mirrors the first sheaf waved on the Feast of Firstfruits (Leviticus 23:11).

• Because He offered Himself, believers are now “a kingdom of priests” (Revelation 1:6).

Our Lives as a Wave Offering

Romans 12:1—“present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.”

1 Peter 2:5—“you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

• The pattern: lift your life before God first, let Him claim it fully, then serve others.

Practical Ways to Wave Our Lives Before the Lord

Daily Surrender

• Begin each morning by consciously handing the day to God—thoughts, plans, conversations.

• Yield every agenda item to His direction (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Visible Identification

• Refuse secret discipleship: openly acknowledge Christ at work, school, and community (Matthew 5:16).

• Let speech, attitudes, and choices unmistakably “wave” allegiance to Him.

Stewardship of Body and Resources

• Treat your body as “a temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

• Budget, calendar, and possessions waved before God first; generous giving and hospitality follow (Hebrews 13:16).

Service as Worship

• Like the Levites, step into hands-on ministry—teaching, mercy, evangelism, practical helps (1 Corinthians 12:4-7).

• Service becomes a living wave offering when motive is love for the Lord, not applause.

Praise and Gratitude

• Continually “offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess His name” (Hebrews 13:15).

• Public thanksgiving in conversations and gatherings lifts His goodness for all to see.

Obedient Holiness

• Separate from sin patterns (2 Corinthians 7:1).

• Pursue purity in thought, media, relationships; holiness is the fragrance of a life waved before Him.

Encouragement to Persist

Levitical priests waved offerings repeatedly; likewise, believers renew surrender day after day. “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17). A life continually lifted to Him is a fragrant, visible declaration that He is worthy of every moment and every breath.

How does the wave offering in Leviticus 8:28 connect to New Testament teachings?
