In what ways can we ensure our actions are consecrated to God’s service? Anchoring in the Text “Then take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. So he and his garments will be holy, as well as his sons and their garments.” (Exodus 29:21) Aaron and his sons were marked by blood and oil—tangible symbols declaring that everything they would do in those garments belonged to God alone. Our calling is the same: every action set apart for His service. Blood and Oil: The Pattern for Consecrated Living • Blood reminds us that cleansing precedes service – Hebrews 9:14: “how much more will the blood of Christ…purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” – 1 John 1:7: walking in the light keeps us under continual cleansing. • Oil represents the Holy Spirit’s empowering presence – 2 Corinthians 1:21-22: we are “anointed” and sealed. – Acts 10:38: Jesus Himself “went about doing good” because God “anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power.” Both elements appear together in Exodus 29:21. We need both realities—cleansing and empowering—before stepping into any task. Practical Steps to Keep Actions Consecrated 1. Begin each day under the blood • Confess known sin immediately (Proverbs 28:13). • Thank Christ for full forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7). 2. Invite the Spirit’s fresh anointing • Yield will and plans to Him (Romans 8:14). • Ask for wisdom and strength (James 1:5). 3. Dress in priestly garments of righteousness • “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 13:14). • Guard thoughts, speech, and habits as carefully as Aaron guarded his linen robe. 4. Offer every task on an inner altar • Colossians 3:17: “Whatever you do…do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” • Mundane chores become worship when intentionally presented to God. 5. Maintain purity through ongoing washing • Psalm 119:9: cleanse the way by staying in the Word. • John 13:10: even cleansed people need daily “foot-washing” fellowship with Christ. 6. Stay in community for accountability • Hebrews 10:24-25: stir one another to love and good works. • Proverbs 27:17: “Iron sharpens iron.” Living as Modern Priests • Identity shapes activity; remember you are “a royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9). • Priestly work spans sanctuary and street—family life, workplace excellence, acts of mercy, evangelism. • Consistent consecration turns ordinary settings into places where God’s glory touches the world. Daily Checklist for Consecrated Action □ Cleansed by the blood? □ Empowered by the Spirit? □ Wearing righteousness? □ Task laid on God’s altar? □ Guarding purity throughout the day? □ Walking with fellow priests? When those boxes stay checked, every word, decision, and deed bears the fragrance of the blood and the oil, declaring that we—and our actions—belong fully to the Lord. |
