How can we follow His ways?
What steps can we take to ensure we "walk in His ways"?

The Foundation—Deuteronomy 10:12

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Why This Matters

• God Himself identifies walking in His ways as the natural overflow of reverent love.

• Obedience is not mere rule-keeping; it is relational loyalty flowing from a heart captured by Him (John 14:21).

Step 1: Fear the LORD Wholeheartedly

• Cultivate awe through daily worship and thanksgiving (Psalm 34:9).

• Reflect on His holiness and justice in passages like Isaiah 6:1-5.

• Let holy fear motivate careful choices, steering clear of sin’s traps (Proverbs 8:13).

Step 2: Love Him Above All

• Remember that love for God is commanded and empowered by God (1 John 4:19).

• Spend unhurried time meditating on His character and works (Psalm 63:1-3).

• Express love in words and actions—sing, journal, or share testimonies of His faithfulness.

Step 3: Saturate Your Mind with His Word

• “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).

• Read systematically—whole books, not random verses—to grasp context.

• Memorize key passages that address current struggles.

• Listen to Scripture audibly while commuting or exercising.

Step 4: Practice Daily, Joyful Obedience

• Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15).

• Start with the next clear step you already know—apologize, forgive, give, serve.

• Keep short accounts with God; confess quickly when you stumble (1 John 1:9).

Step 5: Walk by the Spirit, Not the Flesh

• “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).

• Pray throughout the day, asking the Spirit to guide words, reactions, and decisions.

• Expect His promptings to align with Scripture, never contradict it.

Step 6: Stay Rooted in Biblical Community

• We need others to spur us on (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Join a church that teaches the whole counsel of God.

• Invite accountability—trusted believers who will speak truth in love.

Step 7: Serve with All Your Heart and Soul

Deuteronomy 10:12 links walking in God’s ways to serving Him.

• Discover and use your spiritual gifts (1 Peter 4:10-11).

• View everyday tasks—parenting, work, errands—as arenas of service unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24).

Step 8: Keep the End in View

• Remember the promised blessing: “You shall walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days” (Deuteronomy 5:33).

• Anticipate the ultimate reward—hearing, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).

Putting It All Together

• Begin each morning by surrendering the day to Christ.

• Anchor your thoughts in Scripture before media or tasks demand attention.

• Throughout the day, pause to acknowledge His presence and guidance.

• End each evening with reflection: Where did I walk in His ways? Where did I veer off? Receive His forgiveness and rest for tomorrow’s walk.
