How can we obey God's laws today?
In what ways can we ensure obedience to God's laws today?

Setting the Scene

“ But if you will not listen to Me and carry out all these commandments, ” (Leviticus 26:14)

The verse opens a sober section: refusing to heed God’s voice invites discipline. The flip side is clear—listening and doing bring blessing. So, how do we make sure we obey today?

Why Obedience Still Matters

• God’s commands reveal His holy character (Psalm 19:7).

• Obedience proves genuine love for Christ—“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)

• Walking in His ways brings life and protection (Deuteronomy 30:19–20).

Practical Ways to Ensure Obedience Today

1. Saturate Your Mind with Scripture

• “This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; you are to recite it day and night…” (Joshua 1:8)

• Daily reading plans, audio Bibles on commutes, and family devotions keep truth in constant view.

2. Meditate and Memorize

• “I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:11)

• Write verses on cards or use apps that send a daily reminder; review during spare moments.

3. Teach and Talk About the Word

• “These words… are to be upon your hearts. And you shall teach them diligently to your children…” (Deuteronomy 6:6–7)

• Discuss sermons at lunch, share insights in texts, weave biblical perspectives into everyday conversations.

4. Be a Doer, Not Just a Hearer

• “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:22)

• After study, note one concrete action to take—apologize, give, serve—then follow through the same day.

5. Lean on the Holy Spirit’s Power

• “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)

• Start each morning asking the Spirit to guide thoughts, words, and decisions; pause midday to realign.

6. Stay Connected to the Body

• “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds… not neglect meeting together.” (Hebrews 10:24–25)

• Small groups, accountability partners, and corporate worship provide encouragement and gentle correction.

7. Respond Well to Discipline

• “My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD… for the LORD disciplines the one He loves.” (Proverbs 3:11–12)

• View setbacks as course-corrections from a loving Father; ask what lesson He is highlighting.

8. Cultivate Love for Christ

• “By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.” (1 John 2:3)

• Regularly recall the gospel—His sacrifice fuels grateful obedience more than duty ever could.

Living It Out

Obedience is not accidental; it flows from intentional habits, Spirit-empowered choices, and a heart captivated by God’s goodness. As we listen, learn, and live His Word, we fulfill the call Leviticus 26:14 warns against neglecting—bringing honor to the One who commands for our ultimate joy.
