How can we support each other always?
How can we better support each other in times of suffering and joy?

Sharing One Heart—1 Corinthians 12:26

“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” (1 Corinthians 12:26)

Why This Matters

• The Spirit unites us as one body; what touches one believer affects us all.

• Mutual care showcases Christ’s love to a watching world (John 13:34-35).

Walking with One Another in Suffering

• Listen first—“Be quick to listen, slow to speak” (James 1:19).

• Share the load—“Carry one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2).

• Meet tangible needs:

– Meals, childcare, errands (Acts 11:29-30).

– Financial help through the church’s benevolence fund (2 Corinthians 8:14).

• Pray consistently—“The prayer of a righteous man has great power” (James 5:16).

• Speak hope from Scripture—Psalm 34:18; Romans 8:18; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (all).

• Maintain presence—regular texts, visits, and calls that say, “You’re not forgotten.”

• Guard against clichés; offer genuine empathy (Job 2:13).

Rejoicing with One Another in Joy

• Celebrate openly—“Rejoice with those who rejoice” (Romans 12:15).

• Give thanks together—publicly acknowledge God’s goodness (Psalm 107:1).

• Share testimonies of answered prayer (Luke 17:15-16).

• Honor achievements without envy—“Love does not envy” (1 Corinthians 13:4).

• Include the body—baby showers, graduations, job promotions become church family events.

Building a Culture of Empathy

• Regularly practice hospitality (Hebrews 13:1-2).

• Form small groups where joys and sorrows surface naturally (Acts 2:46-47).

• Teach children to notice and respond to others’ needs, modeling lifelong compassion.

• Encourage words that edify—“Build one another up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Keeping Christ at the Center

• Remember our pattern: Jesus “bore our griefs” (Isaiah 53:4) and now shares His joy with us (John 15:11).

• Depend on the Spirit’s power to love beyond human capacity (Galatians 5:22-23).

• Aim for unity that reflects the Trinity’s harmony (John 17:21).

When we suffer and celebrate as one, the body of Christ becomes a living testimony of God’s faithful, compassionate love.

Why is unity important in the body of Christ according to this verse?
