How can we thank God like Ruth did?
In what ways can we show gratitude for God's provision like Ruth did?

Ruth’s Moment of Gratitude

“ ‘Where did you glean today, and where did you work?’ Naomi asked. ‘Blessed be the man who noticed you.’ So Ruth told her mother-in-law, ‘The man with whom I worked today is Boaz.’ ” (Ruth 2:19)

• Ruth did not keep the bounty to herself; she hurried home to share.

• Her first words highlighted the giver, not the gift.

• Naomi, seeing the provision, immediately blessed the Lord.

Ways We Can Echo Ruth’s Thankfulness

1. Share the Provision

• Ruth carried the ephah of grain back to Naomi (Ruth 2:18).

• We share God-given resources with family, church, and those in need.

2 Corinthians 9:11 – “You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way.”

2. Highlight the Giver

• Ruth named Boaz and thereby honored God’s channel of blessing.

• We publicly acknowledge both God and the people He uses.

James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”

3. Speak Blessing Out Loud

• Naomi’s immediate “Blessed be the man” modeled spoken gratitude.

• We cultivate verbal praise to God and to others.

Psalm 103:1 – “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!”

4. Stay Humble and Industrious

• Ruth kept gleaning the next morning (Ruth 2:23).

• Gratitude is shown by continuing faithful work, not presuming on yesterday’s favor.

Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole heart.”

5. Guard a Thankful Heart Daily

• Ruth’s gratitude wasn’t a one-time act; it became her lifestyle.

• We list daily mercies, thank God before meals, journal answered prayers.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “Give thanks in every circumstance.”

The Ripple Effect of Gratitude

• Naomi’s faith revived; bitterness turned to blessing (compare Ruth 1:20 with 2:20).

• Our gratitude fuels others’ hope and worship.

Luke 17:15-18 – the one leper who returned to thank Jesus received deeper commendation.

Living the Lesson Today

• Offer firstfruits of income to the Lord and His work.

• Send a note or text naming specific ways God used someone to bless you.

• Keep an “ephah” mindset: bring home spiritual and material gleanings to enrich others.

When we respond like Ruth—sharing, blessing, and continuing in humble obedience—our gratitude becomes a testimony to the God who still “…satisfies you with good things” (Psalm 103:5).

How can we apply Ruth's diligence and humility in our daily work?
