What actions can we take to uphold truth in our daily lives? Seeing the Crisis of Truth “Truth is missing, and whoever departs from evil becomes prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice.” (Isaiah 59:15) In Isaiah’s day, truth had vanished from public life; those who still clung to it were hunted. God noticed—and He was offended. Because Scripture is perfectly accurate and literally true, we know His response then reveals His heart today: He still expects His people to protect and practice truth. Four Daily Commitments That Uphold Truth • Speak with transparent honesty – “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor.” (Ephesians 4:25) – Refuse exaggeration, half-truths, or spin. Let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no. • Live with moral clarity – Isaiah links truth and departing from evil. Choose holiness in entertainment, business, sexuality, and speech, even when it costs. – “Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22) • Test everything by Scripture – Measure news, opinions, and feelings against God’s Word. – “Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.” (John 17:17) – Regular Bible reading, memorization, and careful study guard the mind. • Confront lies with grace and courage – Silence in the face of deception allows darkness to spread. Lovingly correct error at home, work, and church. – “We cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.” (2 Corinthians 13:8) Reinforcing Truth With the Word • John 14:6—Truth is personal; Jesus embodies it. • John 8:31-32—Truth liberates when believed and obeyed. • Philippians 4:8—Thinking on what is true cultivates peace. • Proverbs 12:17—Truthful lips endure; a lying tongue is momentary. • 2 Timothy 2:15—Handle Scripture accurately to avoid shame. God’s Promise to Truth-Keepers Psalm 15 assures that those who “speak the truth from the heart” will dwell securely in God’s presence. While the world may scorn or prey upon truth-tellers, the Lord sees, delights, and ultimately vindicates. Stand firm today—truth is never truly missing when His people live it out. |
