What actions can we take to align with God's preservation of knowledge? Seeing God’s Heart for Truth “The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, but He frustrates the words of the faithless.” (Proverbs 22:12) God personally watches over true knowledge. He keeps it intact and blocks the advance of error. To walk in step with Him, we take deliberate, obedient steps that respect His guardianship. Letting Scripture Shape Our Thinking • Proverbs 2:6-7 — He “stores up sound wisdom for the upright.” • Malachi 2:7 — The priest’s lips “should preserve knowledge.” • Psalm 119:11 — Hiding the Word in the heart guards against sin. • 2 Timothy 2:15 — “Accurately handles the word of truth.” • James 1:22 — Doers, not merely hearers. These passages show both God’s role (giving, storing, shielding) and our role (receiving, protecting, practicing). Actions That Align Us with God’s Preservation of Knowledge Seek the Source • Daily, straight-forward Bible reading—aim for breadth (whole-Bible plans) and depth (slow meditation). • Pray before reading: ask the Author to illuminate His own words (Psalm 119:18). Study Diligently • Compare Scripture with Scripture; let clear passages interpret the obscure. • Use trustworthy, text-honoring resources—conservative commentaries, original-language tools—never letting them replace the text itself. • Memorize key verses; repetition engrains truth (Psalm 119:97). Walk in Integrity • Knowledge preserved in a pure heart; hypocrisy invites God’s “frustration” (Proverbs 22:12b). • Confess sin quickly; holiness and insight rise together (Psalm 66:18; John 7:17). Guard Your Speech • Speak truthfully, accurately, humbly (Ephesians 4:25, 29). • Refuse to pass along half-truths, gossip, or sensational “Christian” rumors; error spreads fastest by careless mouths. Teach the Next Generation • Deuteronomy 6:6-9 — weave God’s words into everyday life: at breakfast tables, during drives, at bedtime. • Model curiosity: show children how to ask, “What does the text actually say?” Stay in Community • Attend a Bible-honoring church; sit under expositional preaching. • Join a small group that opens the Word, not merely opinions (Hebrews 10:24-25). • Invite accountability—let others challenge sloppy interpretation or forgetful living. Test Everything • Acts 17:11 — imitate the Bereans: “examining the Scriptures daily to see if these teachings were true.” • Hold new ideas against the plumb line of Scripture; discard anything crooked. Live It Out • James 1:22 — obedience cements knowledge; disobedience erodes it. • Look for one concrete action after every study—applied truth stays kept. Why It Matters When we prize, protect, and practice God’s Word, we cooperate with His own eyes that “preserve knowledge.” In that partnership He safeguards truth for us, through us, and for generations yet to open the Book. |
