How to avoid false gospels today?
How can we guard against being "turned to a different gospel" today?

The Warning in Galatians 1:6

“I am astonished how quickly you are deserting the One who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—” (Galatians 1:6)

Recognize the True Gospel

• Christ alone saves—by grace alone, through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).

• Any addition—works, rituals, new revelations—creates “a different gospel.”

• Keep Jesus’ finished work on the cross central (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

Stay Rooted in Scripture

• “All Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Read daily; know context.

• Memorize key gospel passages (Romans 3:23-24; 5:8; 10:9-10).

• Let the Bible interpret the Bible—compare passages; refuse isolated proof-texts.

Test Every Message

• “Now the Bereans were more noble… they examined the Scriptures daily to see if these teachings were true” (Acts 17:11).

• Ask: Does this teaching magnify Christ or man?

• Filter sermons, podcasts, books, and social media through the Word (1 John 4:1).

Cultivate Discernment in Community

• Submit to a biblically faithful church with accountable elders (Hebrews 13:17).

• Participate in small-group study; sharpen one another (Proverbs 27:17).

• Guard against isolation, where error often grows unchecked (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).

Guard the Heart, Not Just the Head

• “Above all else, guard your heart, for out of it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

• Pray for humility; error often appeals to pride or fear (Colossians 2:18-19).

• Foster love for Christ; affection for Him outshines counterfeit attractions (Revelation 2:4-5).

Boldly Defend the Gospel

• “Contend earnestly for the faith once for all entrusted to the saints” (Jude 3).

• Be ready to give a gentle, respectful defense (1 Peter 3:15).

• Correct error with Scripture, patience, and clarity (Titus 1:9; 2 Timothy 2:24-25).

Live the Gospel You Protect

• Consistent obedience authenticates the message (Philippians 1:27).

• Show grace; the gospel you believe should season your speech and actions (Colossians 4:6).

• A gospel-shaped life makes counterfeits less attractive and more obvious (Matthew 5:16).

Holding fast to the pure gospel is not merely an intellectual pursuit; it is a daily, Spirit-empowered commitment to know Christ, love His Word, and walk in His truth.
