How to be good and please the Lord?
How can we seek to be "good" and find favor with the Lord?

The Verse at a Glance

“A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but He condemns a man of wicked schemes.” (Proverbs 12:2)

What “Good” Looks Like in God’s Eyes

• Rooted in a changed heart—goodness flows from faith, not mere niceness (Romans 3:22; Ephesians 2:8–10).

• Aligns with God’s revealed standards—His Word defines right and wrong (Psalm 19:7–11).

• Bears fruit that matches His character—love, integrity, mercy, humility (Galatians 5:22–23; Micah 6:8).

Finding Favor: God’s Side and Our Side

God’s Side

• He delights to bless obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1–2).

• He is a shield and provider for the upright (Psalm 84:11).

Our Side

• Trust Him wholeheartedly (Proverbs 3:5–6).

• Walk in the light we already have (James 1:22).

• Reject every “wicked scheme” the moment it surfaces (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Practical Steps to Walk in Goodness

1. Stay close to Scripture

– Daily reading anchors the mind in what God calls good (Psalm 119:9–11).

2. Surrender motives and plans

– Ask: “Does this idea honor the Lord or feed self?” (Proverbs 16:2).

3. Practice quick obedience

– Respond immediately when the Spirit brings conviction (John 14:21).

4. Cultivate generosity and mercy

– Tangible kindness reflects the Father’s heart (Proverbs 11:25; Luke 6:36).

5. Choose honest community

– Fellowship spurs us toward righteousness (Hebrews 10:24–25).

Encouragement from Other Scriptures

• “Let love and faithfulness never leave you… Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man.” (Proverbs 3:3–4)

• “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11:6)

• “If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love.” (John 15:10)

God’s favor is not earned by flawless performance but experienced as we trust, obey, and reflect His goodness in everyday life.
