How to boost faith in tough times?
What steps can we take to strengthen our faith during life's turbulent times?

Setting the Scene: Trust Lessons from the Galilean Boat

“When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.” — Matthew 8:23

Step 1: Follow Jesus into the Unknown

• The verse begins with a simple, radical decision: the disciples “followed Him.” They stepped into the same boat Christ entered, even though the lake was notorious for sudden squalls.

• Strengthen faith by obeying promptly, even when the next chapter is unclear.

Proverbs 3:5-6 — Lean not on your own understanding; He will “make straight your paths.”

John 10:27 — Sheep recognize and respond to the Shepherd’s voice.

Step 2: Remember Who Shares the Boat

• The storm hits hard in verses 24-25, but Jesus is physically present.

Psalm 46:1 — “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

• Practice God-awareness:

– Pause during anxious moments; whisper, “Lord, You are here.”

– Journal daily evidences of His nearness.

Step 3: Call Out—Don’t Bottle Up

• The disciples cried, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” (v. 25). They turned fear into prayer.

• Convert every panic into petition.

Philippians 4:6-7 — Present requests; God’s peace will guard heart and mind.

1 Peter 5:7 — Cast all anxiety on Him because He cares.

Step 4: Let His Word Reframe Reality

• Jesus replies, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” then “rebuked the winds and the sea” (v. 26). His Word silences chaos.

• Strengthen faith by saturating mind with Scripture:

– Daily reading plans (Psalms for comfort; Gospels for Christ’s character).

– Verbally declare verses when fear rises (Isaiah 26:3; Romans 8:28).

Step 5: Marvel and Worship

• Verse 27: “The men were amazed.” Awe fuels trust; worship shifts focus from waves to the One who walks on them.

– Schedule deliberate praise—sing aloud, playlist in the car, thanksgiving list.

Psalm 34:1 — “I will bless the LORD at all times.”

Step 6: Recall Past Deliverances

• After calm returned, that memory became a faith-anchor for future storms.

Deuteronomy 4:9 — “Do not forget the things your eyes have seen.”

• Keep a “God’s faithfulness” journal; review it when new turbulence hits.

Step 7: Stay Close to Fellow Disciples

• Nobody faced the gale alone; they were together in the boat.

Hebrews 10:24-25 — Stir one another to love and good works, “all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

• Join a small group, share testimonies, pray for each other.

Putting It All Together

1. Obey quickly.

2. Acknowledge His presence.

3. Pray instead of panicking.

4. Ground thoughts in Scripture.

5. Worship with awe.

6. Chronicle His faithfulness.

7. Walk with fellow believers.

Every storm becomes a classroom where Christ deepens trust, proving again that the safest place on earth is wherever He is—even in a wind-tossed boat.
