How to fill life with Christ, not emptiness?
How can we fill our lives with Christ to avoid the "empty" state?

Setting the Scene

Luke 11:24-26

“‘When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, “I will return to the house I left.” On its return it finds the house swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and dwell there, and the final condition of that man is worse than the first.’”

What the Verse Reveals

• The “house” is a picture of the human life.

• Cleansing alone (removing the evil spirit) leaves a life “swept” but “unoccupied.”

• Vacancy invites even greater bondage.

• The solution is not mere emptiness of evil but fullness of Christ.

Why Fullness Matters

John 10:10 — Christ came “that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness.”

Ephesians 5:18 — “Be filled with the Spirit.” A continuous command, not a one-time event.

Colossians 1:27 — “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” The indwelling Christ is the safeguard against spiritual void.

Practical Ways to Stay Filled

Daily Communion

• Start each morning with Scripture before screens (Psalm 119:147).

• Talk to Jesus throughout the day—short bursts of praise or petition (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

• End the evening reviewing the day with Him (Psalm 63:6).

Word Saturation

• Read broadly (entire books) and meditate deeply (single verses).

• Memorize passages that speak to current struggles (Psalm 119:11).

• Speak Scripture aloud; hearing reinforces believing (Romans 10:17).

Spirit-Led Obedience

• Obedience is the overflow of filling (John 14:15-17).

• Promptly act on Spirit nudges—call, confess, give, serve.

• Each act of obedience opens more space for His presence (Luke 6:38).

Worship as Lifestyle

• Play Christ-centered music in the car, kitchen, headphones (Psalm 22:3).

• Thank Him aloud for small graces—sunlight, food, conversation (Ephesians 5:20).

• Celebrate communion regularly; remember His body and blood (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Body Fellowship

• Commit to a local church that preaches the Word (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Join a small group—sharing, correcting, encouraging (Acts 2:42).

• Serve with your gifts; pouring out invites fresh filling (1 Peter 4:10-11).

Mind Renewal

• Filter media: whatever is true, honorable, just… (Philippians 4:8).

• Replace anxious thoughts with promises (Isaiah 41:10).

• Journal insights; written truth structures the mind.

Mission Focus

• Share the gospel; a poured-out life can’t stay empty (Matthew 28:19-20).

• Pray by name for unbelieving friends; watch God work (Colossians 4:2-4).

• Invest time and resources in Kingdom causes; where your treasure is, your heart follows (Matthew 6:21).

Warning Signs of Slipping Toward Empty

• Neglect of personal Scripture time.

• Lingering, unconfessed sin.

• Isolation from Christian fellowship.

• Loss of zeal for the lost.

• Increasing attraction to worldly entertainments.

Encouragement to Persist

Galatians 6:9 — “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

Stay vigilant; fullness is maintained moment by moment. The Christian life is not a vacuum but a vessel meant to brim with Christ’s presence, power, and purpose.
