How to find God's strength in weakness?
How can we seek God's strength in our weaknesses, like Samson in Judges 16?

Setting the Scene

Judges 16:26: “Samson said to the young man who was leading him by the hand, ‘Let me feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean against them.’”

Samson, once the strongest man alive, now blind, chained, and humbled, reaches for the pillars. His request is simple but loaded with faith: even in utter weakness he trusts God to act. From his example we learn how to seek God’s strength when our own fails.

What Samson Teaches About Weakness

• Acknowledged dependence – Samson no longer boasts; he asks to be led.

• Physical frailty can drive spiritual clarity.

• His greatest victory comes after he admits he can’t accomplish anything alone.

Recognize and Admit Our Own Weak Spots

• List them honestly before the Lord (Psalm 62:8).

• Reject the instinct to hide or excuse them (1 John 1:8–9).

• Remember God already knows (Hebrews 4:13).

Turn to God in Humility

• Samson’s plea mirrors 2 Corinthians 12:9: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.”

• The broken heart God will not despise (Psalm 51:17).

• Lean on—not away from—Him (Proverbs 3:5–6).

Practical Ways to Seek His Strength

1. Pray specifically for power in the exact area of weakness.

Ephesians 3:16: strength “in your inner being.”

2. Grab hold of “pillars” of truth.

– Memorize verses like Isaiah 40:29, 31; Philippians 4:13.

3. Surround yourself with believers who can “lead you by the hand.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9–10.

4. Choose obedience even when you feel unable.

James 1:22; God supplies what He commands.

5. Expect God to act.

Psalm 27:13–14 urges confident waiting.

New Testament Echoes

Hebrews 11:32–34 lists Samson among those who “from weakness were made strong.”

• Paul’s thorn (2 Corinthians 12:7–10) shows the same pattern: weakness → prayer → God’s sufficient grace → unexpected strength.

Promises to Lean Against

Psalm 73:26 – “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Isaiah 41:10 – “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you; surely I will help you.”

Ephesians 6:10 – “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”

Living It Out Today

• Every weakness is an invitation to grab the pillars of God’s promises.

• Reliance is not a last resort; it’s the pathway to victory.

• Like Samson, we can finish well—not in self-confidence, but in God-confidence.
