How to immerse in God's presence?
In what ways can we immerse ourselves in God's presence as depicted in Ezekiel 47:5?

The Vision of the Deepening River

Ezekiel is shown water trickling from the temple threshold, widening and deepening until, at one thousand cubits, he exclaims: “the water had risen and was deep enough for swimming—a river that could not be crossed on foot” (Ezekiel 47:5). The stream proceeds from the very dwelling place of God, affirming both the literal and prophetic reality: wherever His presence flows, life and healing follow (vv. 8-12).

Four Stages in the Passage

• Ankle-deep (v. 3) – first steps of faith

• Knee-deep (v. 4) – growing dependence in prayer

• Waist-deep (v. 4) – strengthened by truth, yet still in some control

• River-deep (v. 5) – fully carried by the current of God’s Spirit

Practical Ways to Wade Deeper Today

• Constant Scripture intake

– “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16). Read, memorize, meditate until His voice shapes every thought.

• Unhindered worship

– “Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” (Ephesians 5:18-19). Private and corporate praise keep the current strong.

• Fervent prayer

– “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). Set apart unhurried times; include fasting when prompted.

• Immediate obedience

– “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15). Obedience removes sandbars that slow the flow.

• Confession and cleansing

– “Let us draw near… having our hearts sprinkled clean” (Hebrews 10:22). Repent quickly; guard purity.

• Spirit-led service

– “Whoever believes in Me… ‘streams of living water will flow from within him.’ ” (John 7:38). Pour out in ministry and witness; the river enlarges as it is shared.

• Fellowship with committed believers

– “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship” (Acts 2:42). Community deepens courage and accountability.

• Sabbath rhythms

– “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Rest keeps our feet off the riverbed so we can float with Him.

The Fruit of Full Immersion

• Unshakable stability – “He will be like a tree planted by streams of water” (Psalm 1:3).

• Continual refreshment – “There is a river whose streams delight the city of God” (Psalm 46:4).

• Overflowing influence – “Wherever the river flows… every living creature that swarms will live” (Ezekiel 47:9).

• Eternal perspective – The same river reappears in Revelation 22:1, linking daily immersion with everlasting life.

Guarding Against Shallow Living

• Unconfessed sin creates dams (Psalm 66:18).

• Worldly distractions leak away passion (Mark 4:19).

• Self-reliance anchors us to the shore (Galatians 5:25).

Invitation to Dive In

God’s design is not a cautious toe-dip but a complete submergence in His presence, until His current carries thoughts, motives, and actions. Ezekiel’s river still flows; step out until your feet no longer touch bottom, and discover the fullness reserved for those who swim where He leads.

How does Ezekiel 47:5 connect with Jesus' promise of 'living water' in John 7:38?
