In what ways can we encourage others to fulfill their God-given ministry? The Charge in Colossians 4:17 “Tell Archippus: ‘See to it that you fulfill the ministry you have received in the Lord.’” (Colossians 4:17) Paul’s brief exhortation packs a clear mandate: every believer who has received a ministry from Christ is responsible to carry it out, and fellow believers are responsible to encourage that obedience. Recognize the Call • Acknowledge that each member of Christ’s body has a specific assignment (Ephesians 4:12). • Affirm that the call is divine, not self-generated (Acts 13:2). • Remind others that God equips what He assigns (Philippians 1:6). Speak Life with God’s Word • Share Scripture that fuels perseverance: – 2 Timothy 4:5: “fulfill your ministry.” – Hebrews 10:24: “spur one another on to love and good deeds.” • Use personal words that echo biblical truth—clear, specific, uplifting. • Address by name when possible, as Paul did with Archippus, to make encouragement personal and direct. Model Faithful Service • Let your own obedience set a visible pattern (1 Corinthians 11:1). • Celebrate progress rather than perfection, demonstrating ongoing dependence on Christ. • Invite others to observe, participate, and learn alongside you. Provide Practical Support • Offer resources: time, tools, finances, connections. • Stand with them during challenges—show up, listen, help. • Share platforms and opportunities so their gifts can flourish (2 Timothy 1:6). Remain in Prayerful Partnership • Pray aloud with and for them, asking God to empower their calling (Ephesians 6:18–19). • Update one another on answered prayers to fuel continued faith. Guard Against Discouragement • Counter lies of inadequacy with truth: “I can do all things through Christ” (Philippians 4:13). • Encourage rest and Sabbath rhythms to prevent burnout (Mark 6:31). • Remind them that opposition often confirms effectiveness (2 Timothy 3:12). Celebrate God’s Work • Publicly thank God when milestones are reached (Psalm 115:1). • Share testimonies of impact to magnify Christ, not the servant (1 Peter 4:10–11). • Keep the focus on finishing well so that, like Paul, we may say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). |
