How to keep "abomination" out today?
How can we avoid bringing "abomination" into our homes today?

The Command in Deuteronomy 7:26

“Do not bring a detestable thing into your house, or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. You must utterly detest it and abhor it, for it is set apart for destruction.”

Understanding “Abomination” Then and Now

• In context, Israel was warned against idols and objects linked to pagan worship.

• The principle endures: anything that dishonors God, promotes sin, or invites demonic influence is detestable.

• Scripture presents holiness as non-negotiable (Leviticus 11:44; 1 Peter 1:15-16).

Identifying Modern “Abominations”

• Physical idols or symbols of false religions, occult, witchcraft, or New Age. (Acts 19:18-19)

• Media—movies, music, games, websites—that glorify violence, sexual immorality, profanity, or the occult. (Psalm 101:3)

• Pornography and sexually explicit materials. (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

• Objects used in divination: tarot cards, Ouija boards, crystals as spiritual talismans. (Deuteronomy 18:9-12)

• Literature or décor celebrating blasphemy, hatred, or demonic themes.

• Devices or platforms left unfiltered that repeatedly stream ungodly content.

• Subscriptions or memberships that actively oppose biblical truth.

Practical Steps to Guard Our Homes

• Conduct a prayerful inventory: closets, shelves, screens, playlists, and subscriptions.

• Ask: Does this honor Christ and align with Philippians 4:8?

• Remove and destroy any item the Spirit convicts you about—do not resell or donate it (cf. Acts 19:19).

• Set clear media standards: use filters, ratings, and accountability software (Job 31:1).

• Establish visible reminders of Scripture—art, verses, music that elevate Christ (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).

• Lead family worship and open the Word together; teach discernment early (Proverbs 22:6).

• Invite trusted believers to speak into your life and hold you accountable (Hebrews 3:13).

• Regularly re-evaluate; new items enter the home all the time.

Scriptures That Reinforce the Principle

Exodus 20:3-5 — No other gods, no idols.

Joshua 24:15 — “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 — Separate from what is unclean; be God’s temple.

Ephesians 5:11 — “Have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

James 4:7 — Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee.

1 John 5:21 — “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”

The Blessing of a Pure Home

• God’s presence and peace fill a consecrated environment (Psalm 119:165).

• Families flourish in spiritual health, unity, and protection (Psalm 128:1-4).

• A clean home becomes a powerful witness to neighbors and guests (Matthew 5:14-16).

• We position ourselves to hear God clearly and to walk in His favor (John 14:23).
