How to persist in doing good deeds?
What practical steps can we take to persevere in doing good works?

The Call to Persevere

“And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Why Weariness Sneaks In

• Serving without refueling

• Carrying burdens alone (cf. Galatians 6:2)

• Forgetting the promised harvest

• Listening to discouraging voices instead of God’s Word

Fix Your Focus on Christ

• “Let us run with endurance the race set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

• Remember His finished work and ongoing intercession—your effort is never isolated.

Draw Strength from the Spirit

• “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)

• Invite the Spirit’s power daily; lean on His fruit—especially patience and faithfulness.

Stay Rooted in Scripture

• Feast on passages that renew resolve: 1 Corinthians 15:58; 2 Thessalonians 3:13; Psalm 119:28.

• Memorize Galatians 6:9 so truth answers fatigue immediately.

Cultivate Christ-Centered Habits

• Schedule good works as rhythms, not random extras (Ephesians 5:15-16).

• Start small, repeat often: a phone call, a meal, a note, consistent generosity.

Serve Within Your God-Given Gifting

• “Each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve others.” (1 Peter 4:10)

• Operating where God wired you fuels joy and staying power.

Walk with Companions

• “Let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

• Share goals, pray together, celebrate progress, shoulder setbacks.

Guard Rest and Renewal

• Jesus told weary disciples, “Come with Me by yourselves to a solitary place and rest a while.” (Mark 6:31)

• Healthy sleep, Sabbath rhythms, and moments of solitude keep service sustainable.

Remember the Harvest

• Eternal reward outweighs present strain: “Our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory.” (2 Corinthians 4:17)

• Picture faces changed by your obedience; picture Christ’s “Well done.”

Stand Firm Against Discouragement

• Reject the enemy’s lies with truth (James 4:7).

• Celebrate even small fruit—evidence that God’s Word never returns void (Isaiah 55:11).

Live with Expectant Gratitude

• “Give thanks in all circumstances.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

• Gratitude shifts eyes from exhaustion to God’s ongoing provision.

Keep Short Accounts with God

• Regular confession and cleansing (1 John 1:9) clear the heart for fresh zeal.

• Repent quickly of reluctant attitudes; receive fresh grace to press on.

A Harvest Worth the Wait

Perseverance in good works is never wasted. God plants every effort, waters it with His Spirit, and promises a due-season harvest. Keep sowing; the reaping is certain because the Faithful One guarantees it.
