How to practice sacrificial giving daily?
How can we apply the principle of sacrificial giving in our daily lives?

Setting the Scene

Numbers 28:30 records God’s instruction for Israel’s Feast of Weeks: “together with one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for each of them, with its drink offering.” The offering was:

• Exact—one-tenth of an ephah, no guesswork

• Excellent—“fine” flour, sifted, the best of the crop

• Enhanced—mixed with oil, costly and fragrant

• Expensive—paired with a drink offering, further value added

Core Principles of Sacrificial Giving

• Precision: God names the portion, so giving is planned, not haphazard.

• Quality: He wants the best, not leftovers (cf. Proverbs 3:9).

• Costliness: True worship costs something (cf. 2 Samuel 24:24).

• Joyful obedience: Each gift was an act of celebration, not drudgery (cf. Deuteronomy 16:10-11).

What Sacrificial Giving Looks Like Today

Financially

• Give first, not last—set aside your tithe or chosen percentage when income arrives.

• Go beyond surplus—choose an amount that actually changes how you spend elsewhere, like the widow’s mites (Mark 12:43-44).

Time & Talent

• Calendar generosity—block weekly time to serve, mentor, visit the sick, or prepare a meal for someone in need.

• Offer your skills—use professional abilities (legal, medical, mechanical, artistic) for those who can’t pay.

Possessions

• Hold things loosely—loan or give a vehicle, tool, or household item whenever the Spirit nudges.

• Practice “best-gift” giving—don’t donate only worn-out items; give quality that blesses the recipient.

Words & Encouragement

• Speak life—texts, calls, or notes that cost you time but lift weary hearts (Hebrews 13:16).

• Pray with, not just for, people—stopping in the moment demonstrates that their burden matters.

Scriptural Reinforcement

Malachi 3:10—God invites us to “bring the full tithe” and watch Him open heaven’s windows.

Luke 6:38—“Give, and it will be given to you… For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

2 Corinthians 9:7—God loves the cheerful giver; attitude matters as much as amount.

Romans 12:1—our bodies are living sacrifices; generosity extends to every arena of life.

Practical Steps for the Week Ahead

1. Identify one area where giving currently costs you nothing—upgrade it.

2. Schedule a specific act of service (e.g., babysit for a single parent).

3. Review your budget and move giving to the top line.

4. Select one prized possession and ask the Lord who might need it more.

5. Share an encouraging Scripture with someone daily; it costs only intentionality.

As Israel mixed fine flour with oil, may we blend our resources, time, and hearts, offering them freely to the One who first gave everything for us.
