How to prioritize God's approval over man's?
In what ways can we avoid seeking human approval over God's approval?

The Heart of the Issue (Luke 16:15)

“So He said to them, ‘You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is detestable in God’s sight.’”

Jesus exposes the Pharisees’ craving for public approval. God sees the hidden motives, and He alone sets the standard for what truly matters.

Why the Praise of People Is So Attractive

• It offers immediate, tangible rewards—applause, popularity, influence.

• It strokes pride, letting self-importance masquerade as spirituality.

• It supplies a counterfeit sense of security, built on shifting human opinion.

• It avoids conflict, since agreement with the crowd feels “safer” than obedience that might offend.

Dangers of Living for Applause

• Compromise of truth (John 12:42-43).

• Hypocrisy—outward show with no inward devotion (Matthew 23:27-28).

• Fear of rejection eclipsing fear of God (Proverbs 29:25).

• Loss of eternal reward; works done “to be seen” receive payment in full on earth (Matthew 6:1-4).

Pursuing God’s Approval First: Practical Steps

• Begin each decision by asking, “What does Scripture command?” then follow through—regardless of audience reaction (Acts 5:29).

• Cultivate secret obedience—give, pray, and serve where only the Father sees (Matthew 6:6).

• Anchor identity in Christ, not in likes, shares, or compliments (Colossians 3:3).

• Measure success by faithfulness, not popularity (1 Corinthians 4:2).

• Surround yourself with believers who value conviction over convenience (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Memorize verses that confront people-pleasing, rehearsing them when tempted (Galatians 1:10).

• Celebrate quiet victories of integrity; thank God, not people, for the grace to obey.

Scripture Connections That Reinforce the Point

Galatians 1:10—servants of Christ cannot live to please men.

1 Thessalonians 2:4—ministry tested by God, not by crowds.

Colossians 3:23—work heartily “as for the Lord, not for men.”

Proverbs 29:25—fear of man proves a snare; trust in the Lord brings safety.

John 5:44—seeking glory from one another blocks belief.

Romans 12:2—refusal to conform to this age renews the mind toward God’s will.

Daily Affirmations to Resist People-Pleasing

• God alone evaluates my heart accurately.

• His approval, not public applause, determines eternal worth.

• Obedience is success, even if no one notices.

• I live before an audience of One.
