How to prioritize God's work today?
In what ways can we prioritize God's work in our lives today?

Scripture Focus

Ezra 6:5: “Furthermore, the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, are to be returned and carried back to the temple in Jerusalem, where they belong, and deposited in the house of God.”

Remembering God’s Ownership

The vessels were never Babylon’s trophies; they were always God’s.

– Our time, talents, and treasures are likewise His (Psalm 24:1).

– Prioritizing His work begins by acknowledging His absolute ownership over every corner of our lives.

Restoring What Was Taken

Israel had to bring back what exile had displaced.

– We may need to return distracted hearts, overloaded schedules, or misused resources to their rightful place—His service.

– When something good has drifted away from God’s purposes, restoration is better than replacement.

Guarding the Holy

The decree insisted the vessels be “deposited in the house of God.”

– Set boundaries that keep worship, Bible reading, and fellowship from being crowded out.

– Guard the moments and materials dedicated to His glory with determined intentionality.

Obedience Without Delay

Darius ordered an immediate return. No committees, no stalling.

– Quick obedience shows trust (John 14:15).

– Procrastination signals competing loyalties; prompt action proclaims God’s priority.

Investing Resources in Kingdom Work

Gold and silver returned to the temple underscore giving our best, not our leftovers.

– First-fruits generosity (Proverbs 3:9) funds missions, supports the hurting, and expands gospel witness.

– Excellence in our vocations and service reflects the value we place on the One we serve (Colossians 3:23-24).

Practical Steps for Today

• Block out non-negotiable daily time with the Lord before other appointments.

• Tithe or set aside a percentage for kingdom causes as soon as income arrives.

• Audit weekly activities; remove what hinders worship and add what promotes it.

• Keep a “temple inventory” of gifts and skills; deploy them in church and community rather than letting them sit in “Babylonian storage.”

• Surround yourself with believers who celebrate and reinforce God-first decisions.
