How to scatter God's foes today?
How can we apply the call for God's enemies to "be scattered" today?

Anchoring in the Text

Psalm 68:1: “Let God arise; may His enemies be scattered; may those who hate Him flee before Him.”

Seeing the Original Picture

• Israel’s camp paused and the ark moved forward (cf. Numbers 10:35); the shout was a literal summons for God to advance and rout opposition.

• In Psalm 68 David echoes that cry, celebrating victories already won and anticipating future triumphs.

Recognizing God’s Enemies Today

• Satan and the powers of darkness (Ephesians 6:12; 1 Peter 5:8).

• False ideologies that exalt themselves “against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

• Human rebellion—individual or collective—opposing the gospel (John 3:19-20).

• The sin that still wages war inside believers (Romans 7:23).

Ways We Join the Call for Scattering

1. Stand in Christ’s finished victory

Colossians 2:15: “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public spectacle of them.”

Romans 16:20: “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.”

2. Pray Scripture-saturated prayers

– Declare Psalm 68:1, Numbers 10:35, and 1 John 3:8 over situations plagued by darkness.

– Ask God to expose and dismantle lies, immorality, and demonic strongholds.

3. Proclaim the gospel boldly

– The light of Christ scatters darkness (2 Corinthians 4:4-6).

– Every conversion removes a soul from the enemy’s grip (Acts 26:18).

4. Resist the devil daily

James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

– Armor up—truth, righteousness, readiness, faith, salvation, Word, prayer (Ephesians 6:13-18).

5. Renounce personal sin

– Confession and repentance break footholds (1 John 1:9).

– Purity scatters darkness in our homes, churches, and communities (Matthew 5:14-16).

6. Worship and rejoice

– Praise enthrones God (Psalm 22:3) and drives back spiritual opposition (2 Chronicles 20:22).

– Gratitude keeps hearts fixed on His supremacy rather than the enemy’s activity.

7. Walk in loving obedience

Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

– Acts of mercy, justice, and compassion push back the works of the devil (Micah 6:8).

Living in Expectation of His Triumph

• Christ’s return will scatter every remaining enemy completely (Revelation 19:11-16).

• Until then, we persevere in faith, knowing “the Lord knows those who are His” (2 Timothy 2:19).

• Our confidence rests not in human schemes but in the God who always rises to defend His name.

Daily Takeaway

Each time we align our prayers, words, and actions with God’s revealed will, we echo David’s cry: “Let God arise; may His enemies be scattered.”
