How to seek God's approval in decisions?
How can we seek God's approval before making significant life decisions?

Anchor Text: Judges 18 : 6

“Then the priest said to them, ‘Go in peace. The LORD is watching over your journey, wherever you go.’”

What the Levite’s Blessing Reveals

- The Danite scouts refused to move forward until they heard from the Lord.

- God responded through the Levite with assurance of His oversight.

- Approval came first, travel followed. That order still matters.

Principles for Seeking God’s Approval Today

1. Search His Word before signing on any dotted line.

• Scripture is God’s settled voice (Psalm 119:105).

2. Ask boldly and expect wisdom.

• “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God… and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)

3. Wait for inner confirmation of peace.

• “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” (Colossians 3:15)

4. Invite counsel that honors Christ.

• “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22)

5. Test every option against clear commands.

• “Test all things. Hold fast to what is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Helpful Checks Before Deciding

- Does this choice contradict any clear Bible teaching?

- Will it deepen my love for God and neighbor?

- Can I pursue it with a clean conscience and thankful heart?

- Do mature believers who know me see God’s hand in it?

- Is the door opening without manipulation or compromise?

When Direction Seems Delayed

- Keep doing the last instruction God gave.

- Refuse shortcuts; Abraham learned the pain of Ishmael (Genesis 16).

- Remember His timing is perfect: “Those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Confirming Passages at a Glance

Proverbs 3:5-6 — Trust, acknowledge, and watch Him straighten paths.

Psalm 32:8 — He promises personal instruction.

Isaiah 30:21 — His voice guides every turn.

Acts 16:6-10 — The Spirit can close doors and open better ones.

Living the Lesson

God’s approval is not a puzzle to crack but a relationship to cultivate. Keep His Word open, your knees bent, your ears tuned, and your heart surrendered. Like the Danites, move only when you can walk in peace knowing the Lord is watching over your journey.

Connect Judges 18:6 to Proverbs 3:5-6 on trusting God's direction.
